What to do for fun
You may enjoy making and eating these simple dishes. If you are under 16 ask permission first.
Apple Crumble --
Peel, core and slice 6-8 apples. In a large bowl, mix 1/4 cup water and 2 tablespoons flour. Add 1/4 cup brown sugar and about 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon. Add the fruit and stir. Place the fruit mixture in a glass baking dish about 9 inches square. In the mixing bowl combine 3/4 cups rolled oats, 3 tablespoons of brown sugar and 2 tablespoons of melted margarine. Mix well. Spread the mixture over the fruit. Bake in a 350 degree oven until the fruit is tender.
This can also be cooked in a microwave oven by first cooking the fruit, water, flour, brown sugar and cinnamon mixture on high for six minutes in the baking dish. Stir once at about 4 minutes. Then spread the rolled oats, brown sugar and margarine mixture on top. Cook on high for 3 to 6 minutes until the fruit is tender.
Peaches or pears can be used instead of apples. Serve by itself or with frozen yogurt or ice cream.
Yummy Apple Salad --
Wash, core and chop apples. Wet with lemon juice to prevent browning. Place in a bowl with sliced celery, lettuce, pecan nuts and toss with your favourite salad dressing or mayonaise.
