Fun Science Idea

End view of two cans lying on their sides. Here is an opportunity to pat yourself on the back if you can solve this puzzle.

A marker has been used to draw an arrow on the bottom of each of two empty soda cans. The cans are placed on their sides on a table top. A yardstick is on top of the cans so that the end of the yardstick is even with the edge of the table. While pushing down lightly on the yardstick it is shoved toward the edge of the table so that both cans roll. Stop when the cans have made one rotation and the arrows again point down. How far over the edge of the table does the yardstick extend? We will assume the cans' circumference(distance around) is 9 inches.
